Austrian EURAM Bank Winding Down- Payouts only after AML Checks
We've been receiving numerous requests from EURAM Bank clients seeking assistance with refunds from the Deposit Guarantee Scheme following the prohibition of business operations by the Austrian Financial Market Authority (FMA).
🔒 Key Points:
- Official stoppage of payments declared.
- Deposit Guarantee Scheme to reimburse deposits up to €100,000 per depositor with potential higher limits under specific conditions.
- Einlagensicherung AUSTRIA tasked with managing pay-outs.
- Anti-money laundering checks to precede disbursements, with client data shared with the AML Notification Office and Austrian Police, a potentially impactful and unprecedented step for many clients. Legal actions and file inspections are recommended.

European Union sanctions against the Russian Federation
The European Union's sanctions against the Russian Federation and Belarus have presented the Austrian economy with complex challenges and numerous risks since February 2022. Business relationships with Russia that violate sanctions or an embargo can not only result in heavy administrative penalties, but can also be punishable by law and thus carry the threat of imprisonment. Our International Desk, led by partner Lukas Roeper and associate Victoria Fischl, supports domestic companies in navigating the sanctions jungle as effectively as possible.

Amendment to the Fuel Regulation in force
The amendment to the Fuel Ordinance comes into force on 01.01.2023. This amendment implements the targets for the use of renewable energy in road transport set out in Directive (EU) 2018/2001 on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources. At the heart of this amendment is the promotion of the creditability of the renewable share of electricity, the increased use of which is made particularly attractive by the fourfold crediting towards the corresponding targets. The same principle, a fourfold credit, will also be introduced for liquid or gaseous renewable fuels of non-biogenic origin, such as hydrogen. If you have any questions, our experts Dominik Kurzmann (partner) and Sandra Kasper (lawyer) are available at any time.

An analysis by partner Dominik Kurzmann and attorney Sandra Kasper in RdU.

Weinberger, managing director of agro-PV specialist Amarenco Solar Austria, at the PHH (IN)Talk.
